Five For Friday

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/
It's already Friday again! Can't believe how fast my summer is going. Hop over to Doodle Bugs to link up!

We finally finished our deck! So this week we started staining! It has been so nice out so we figured we better get it done. We are using a clear stain, not a lot of color but hopefully it will last awhile.
Baby is 3 months old! I can't believe how fast time is going!
Apparently staining is on my mind lately! I started preparing my cabinets to be stained also. I can't stand this yucky color any longer! Right now, I am on the second coat of stain. Not sure what I think about it yet.. hmm. Hopefully it will turn out good!
The weather has been AWESOME this week! We never get summer weeks in Kansas where the weather is in the 70s! Ah so nice! So we celebrated with a walk! He is just so cute in his hoodie!

Last, my husband and I have become obsessed with NCIS. I have never watched it before this summer. And we are hooked! We have been watching it every night during dinner! HA!

Can't wait to read your post!

Back to School Weekly Linky: Behavior Management

This is exactly what I needed get my head started thinking about school. Only 3 weeks left until I am back to work. How am I going to leave this little cutie!?
Here is the schedule to keep me on track.
Head over to Mrs. D's Corner and Mrs. V's Busy Bees to link up!
http://mrsdscorner.blogspot.com/2014/07/back-2-school-linky-week-1-behavior.html

So today's topic is Behavior Management:
AMC Bucks:
The last 2 years my teammates and I have been working with the same group of kids. Let's just say that we had some CHALLENGING behaviors. We taught 4th grade and then moved up to 5th grade. It had positives and negatives about it. The biggest problem was that by year 2 we needed to revamp our behavior procedures to keep the kids on task.

We continued using a money system we called, AMC Bucks. How cute is that!? I don't know if you have AMC Movie Theaters where you are, but we sure do! We were so excited it just worked out that each of our last names fit! My teammate then created these cute little bucks and the register to use in our classroom. We printed these in B&W on green paper!

 Here's how it worked:
-Each day they came to school they would get $200. Wish I could get $200 for walking in the door! :)
-Throughout the day they would have to complete their student duties: On task, following directions etc to keep their money
-If they did not follow their duties they could lose money. Usually it was $50 each time. (Most students never lost any money)
-They kept track of their money on their own register in their binders. This was the hard part because I did not keep a record of every student's money because that would be crazy! But really, they were all very honest about it. You always knew who earned the reward or not by the end of the quarter. I did love that this was exactly like keeping a bank register which is a life skill!
-They needed to reach a certain amount by the end of the quarter. We figured out how many days we had and then cut it back a bit so it was achievable if you were absent a couple days. Usually ours was about $7,000 to get the reward.
Rewards: Usually all were about 30 minutes, once a quarter.
-Tech Party  -Extra Recess -Short movie/snack Etc. What other rewards do you use?

*Also, we had class money that they had to earn daily. We needed to reach $800 by recess so they could have the whole time to play. Each section of our day was worth at least $100. We had recess in the afternoon. If they did not reach the $800 then we had them walk "thinking laps" for 5 minutes of their time. Again, I added or took away money based on the whole class's behavior. This worked, we hardly ever missed recess time. Shock, they love it!

Homework Club:
In 4th grade, we had lots of trouble with kids turning in their homework. So I tried out Lesson with Laughter's - Homework Club. I loved it! Here is what it looked like in my room. Free numbers here!
Everyday the kids would have to mark off their name on the Homework Sheet, which was just a simple table with their names and days of the week. Then they could keep their number in the Homework Club. Here is how I made this.

Now, this did not work for everyone. There were always the chronic kids that did not turn in homework repeatedly and unfortunately for them they missed out on some fun activities. I had a few students that NEVER, and I mean NEVER, turned in one piece of homework in 4th grade.

*Funny story: One student, never turned in homework and always had the best excuses! My favorite one was: "Well, I did it. But, then I was outside and it kind of fell in... the lake. So it was ruined." Ps. There is no lake anywhere near where I teach. HA! (He actually did his homework last year!)

But surprisingly, this worked for them, and they hardly ever missed an assignment. I call that a win!

I am definitely going to use the Homework Club again in 3rd grade this year. Since I am moving down to 3rd grade with two new teammates I'm not sure yet what management system we will use. Hopefully something similar to AMC bucks, but I am always looking for new ideas! Hoping to find some on your posts!

Happy Wednesday!

Two for Tuesday

http://www.theteachingtribune.com/2014/07/two-for-tuesday-71514.html
Trying out this linky I found today! Looks like fun! Thanks to Martha at the Teaching Tribune for hosting! I am going with a Reading theme today!

Here are the 2 products that I have put on sale for 50% for today!

The first is a new product I finished up yesterday. I'm so pumped about this one. I am going to print and laminate these today!

What I'm using them for:
-I saw a large wooden sign created with book places on Pinterest. I haven't got around to that yet, looks like it will take a lot of work. So I created my own book places clipart to use in my classroom!
-I am going to print out the colored arrows pretty large and laminate them. Then I am going to attach them to a long piece of construction paper for the sign post. This is going to look great in my classroom library!
-There are some ready made sign posts for you to use as well!
-I am also going to use them for library activities as clipart!

Next up, my Story Map Cards.
Included in this set are Story Map cards and What's the Big Idea cards.

What I use them for:
During small guided reading groups I use these for the stories we are reading. I just assign each student a box and a sticky note and they have to record the needed information. (I usually rotate boxes so that each student gets to do all the boxes) it really gets them into the story because they know they will be assigned something to write about. You could also color code the sticky notes to a specific group so that you can leave them up! My students loved this last year. I don't know what it is about sticky notes but they are always excited to use them!

Here is what it looked like in my room last year!
That's it for today! I have already found things I need to purchase!

Happy Tuesday!

Monday Made it July 14th

http://4thgradefrolics.blogspot.com/2014/07/monday-made-it-summer-week-7.html
I'm linking up with Tara at 4thGradeFrolics for MMI!
I made my niece this adorable little bow to wear in her hair! Isn't she adorable!?
My next made it is a recipe! For some reason I decided yesterday that I needed to cook! We made breakfast burritos to freeze, no bake cookies, and enchiladas for dinner! I have always been somewhat scared to try and make enchiladas because I thought they were just too much work! But, I found this easy recipe and tried it out this weekend. It was delicious!! Check out the recipe here.
Yummo!
Last, here is a preview of what I've been working on! These are going to look great in my library and go along with my road trip theme! I've seen cute signs made from wood like this, but I figure I will actually make this if I only have to print and laminate!

That's it for this week. I really need to start thinking about what I need to start doing for my classroom! Can't wait to see more ideas!

Five for Friday!

I thought it would be fun today to link up for Five for Friday with Doodlebugs! So here goes!
http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2014/07/five-for-friday-linky-party-july-11.html
So excited Ryder is starting to smile a ton and laugh! And I actually caught a picture of it this week! School is a month away already. I'm going to be sad to leave him for the day, it's been so nice staying home with him!

I am a LITTLE obsessed with making bowties for my little one! They are so fun and cute! He has one for all the upcoming holidays so far! I'm contemplating selling these on Etsy but need to do a little more research!

I finally finished up some of my clipart that I have been putting off for what seems like forever! Aren't these just so cute? They go great with my Road Trip Theme in my classroom! I need to get to printing! Check them out at my store!
Another project I finished up last night. Yay! A sweet, little jester hat for my neighbor's soon-to-be-here granddaughter! I love the tassels on top! Her parents love the Renaissance Fair so hopefully they will love this too!

And last, I started working on my outdoor landscaping project that I have been staring at all summer. I'm just getting started on the outline, but hey gotta start somewhere. After moving rocks for about 45 minutes and sweating in the heat, I came across a small snake! Yikes! Needless to say, I was done for the evening. Wonder if the neighbors heard me scream!

That's it for today! I look forward to checking out everyone's post!

Monday Made it!

Wow. What a weekend! Spent from Thursday to Sunday at the Lake, and I'm happy to say I have somewhat of a tan! Yay!

Here is a quick picture of my baby in his patriotic gear! This is the pallet I painted last week!
The 4th of July inspired my made it for this week!
Now on to my Made its with Fourth Grade Frolics! Love this linky!
http://4thgradefrolics.blogspot.com/2014/07/monday-made-it-summer-week-6.html

Check out this adorable bowtie I made for his July 4th Outfit! I really got back into crocheting the last few weeks I was pregnant because I needed something to do! :) They are super easy to crochet!

So I decided to make a few more for him to wear during the holidays! I've made 2 Halloween themed and one Christmas so far! (One of them is not done yet!) I love them!
Last, I whipped up a holiday hat for Ryder for Christmas. I made lots of hats for his newborn photo shoot, but now he has grown out of them! There is a great pattern to make this from RepeatCrafterMe. Check it out there are tons of cute, free patterns!
That's it for this week! Can't wait to find some more project on your Monday Made it!
